Srinagar, Mar 01 (KNO): The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), the conglomerate of Islamic religious organisations in Jammu and Kashmir, has called for a voluntary strike on Monday to protest the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli airstrike on Tehran.
The umbrella body, which brings together dozens of religious, educational and social organisations across the region, described the assassination as a “blatant act of aggression” that has shaken the conscience of the Muslim world and appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to register their protests peacefully in their own localities.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU), the largest conglomerate of Islamic religious organisations in Jammu and Kashmir, has in a joint statement expressed profound grief and condemnation over the brutal assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, describing it as a blatant act of aggression by the US and Israel that has shaken the conscience of the Muslim world.
“In this hour of immense grief , the people of Jammu & Kashmir stand in heartfelt solidarity with the leadership and people of Iran”
He said, the members of MMU including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mufti Azam Nasir-ul-Islam, Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Qasmi, Aga Syed Hasan Al-Mousavi Al-Safvi, Dr. Adil Latif Al-Kandi, Aga Syed Muhammad Hadi, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari and others, said that the people of Jammu & Kashmir denounce this atrocity and the continuing aggression against Iran, as well as the massacre of innocent girl students in Minab.
“It termed these developments as deeply disturbing,warning that such reckless acts of aggression threaten to further destabilise the region and endanger global peace,” he said.
“MMU said that in view of the outraged feelings of the people of jammu Kashmir against this brutal assassination and the ongoing aggression in the region, MMU appeals to people to observe a voluntary strike tomorrow to register their protest in a peaceful manner,” said the spokesperson adding it has also appealed to people, to register their protests in their own localities peacefully ensuring that peace and order is not disturbed.
